The Calimesa Men's Golf Club

  • The Yu-Cal Cup belongs to the Calimesa Men's Golf Club!  In an unbelievable highly contested come from behind win, 20 Members took on and beat the Yucaipa Men's Golf Club 18 1/2 to 11 1/2 on October 18 at Calimesa Country Club.   While scoring the matches it was very close.  It came down to the last putt on the last hole by the last team on the course.  That halved hole was what clinched the victory.  The combined score of both matches played in this year's Cup was 30 to 30.  A tie is good enough for the Calimesa Men's Golf Club to retain the Yu-Cal Cup.  Looking forward to next year's match already.

  • Our next tournament is the annual Turkey Shoot on November 8.  Pick your opponent and play for the Big Turkey ($20 Stater Bros gift card).  The looser gets a small turkey ($10 Stater Bros gift card).  Either way you get your money back so you can't loose.  If you don't have a Member to play a match against, register and the Tournament Committee will find a Member for you.

  • If you haven't already renewed your 2016 membership, please do so before the Annual General Meeting on December 6.  You will be dropped from the roster as of January 1, 2016 if your dues aren't paid.  Click here for information on how to pay your dues.

  • There has been some confusion about how to play a ball out of the new water hazards at Calimesa Country Club.  Water hazards have been clearly defined by red stakes.  The new hazards come into play on holes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 15, and 17.  Please apply the following rules when a water hazard comes into play.  If there is confusion about a rule within a group, play two balls and the Tournament Committee will make a final decision.

  • Under USGA Rule 26-1, If a ball is found in a water hazard or if it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in the water hazard (whether the ball lies in water or not), the player may under penalty of one stroke:

    a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or

    b. Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped; or

    c. As additional options available only if the ball last crossed the margin of a lateral water hazard, drop a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole.

  • Under USGA Rule 13-4, Except as provided in the Rules, before making a stroke at a ball that is in a hazard (whether a bunker or a water hazard) or that, having been lifted from a hazard, may be dropped or placed in the hazard, the player must not:

    a. Test the condition of the hazard or any similar hazard;

    b. Touch the ground in the hazard or water in the water hazard with his hand or a club; or

    c. Touch or move a loose impediment lying in or touching the hazard.

    Exceptions:

    1. Provided nothing is done that constitutes testing the condition of the hazard or improves the lie of the ball, there is no penalty if the player (a) touches the ground or loose impediments in any hazard or water in a water hazard as a result of or to prevent falling, in removing an obstruction, in measuring or in marking the position of, retrieving, lifting, placing or replacing a ball under any Rule or (b) places his clubs in a hazard.

    2. At any time, the player may smooth sand or soil in a hazard provided this is for the sole purpose of caring for the course and nothing is done to breach Rule 13-2 with respect to his next stroke. If a ball played from a hazard is outside the hazard after the stroke, the player may smooth sand or soil in the hazard without restriction.

    3. If the player makes a stroke from a hazard and the ball comes to rest in another hazard, Rule 13-4a does not apply to any subsequent actions taken in the hazard from which the stroke was made.

Note: At any time, including at address or in the backward movement for the stroke, the player may touch, with a club or otherwise, any obstruction, any construction declared by the Committee to be an integral part of the course or any grass, bush, tree or other growing thing.

  • The Yucaipa High School Girls Golf Team finished their season a few weeks ago.  They went a perfect 15-0!  Click here to read the latest article in the News Mirror.  Citrus Belt League Finals were played at Jurupa Hills on 10/21 and 10/22.  Pearson shot a combined two day total of 170 to become the League Champion.  CIF Team Finals will be played at Los Serranos on 11/2.  Congratulations Girls!

  • The Men's Club is testing new tournament software, courtesy of the SCGA.  It's called TPP (Tournament Pairings Program).  This is web based software that is stored in the cloud and is available in real time.  There are some great features that the  Tournament Committee will be implementing.  Members will be emailed a link to view pairings and hole assignments the day before a tournament, a leaderboard will be available on our website, scores will be posted for handicapping immediately after the tournament, and access to all scores, results, and course statistics will be available as scores are being entered by the Tournament Committee.  The hope is that TPP will provide quicker access to tournament results and reduce the time the Tournament Committee spends scoring.

  • Don't forget that the SCGA recently announced the launching of a rebate program for golfers who are members of multiple SCGA clubs.  To sign up for the rebate, click here or visit scga.org/rebate for details.

  • A big thank you to Jim Wood and Tom Wigent for donating new laptops to the Men's Club.  Our existing laptop had been on life support  for awhile and the plug had to be pulled.  The new laptops will be a great benefit when using the new TPP to score tournaments.

  • The Men's Club is still looking for two Members at Large for 2016.  Members at Large assists the Board with handicapping, tournament scoring, course marking, and other projects as they arise.  Terms are for two years and are appointed by the current elected Board.  If you are interested in getting involved, please talk to one of the Board Members.
