Yu-Cal Cup

The Yu-Cal Cup is a Ryder Cup style tournament played between the Calimesa Men's Golf Club and the Yucaipa Men's Golf Club.  The Cup was first played for in 2001.  There were six matches played from 2001 to 2006, five of which were won by the Calimesa Men's Golf Club.  The Clubs resurrected the tournament in 2015 and Calimesa retained the Cup be halving the matches.  Calimesa defended the Cup in 2016 winning 17.5 to 12.5.  The Yu-Cal Cup matches weren't played from 2017 - 2021.  In May 2022, the Clubs played for the Yu-Cal Cup again.  Calimesa retained the Cup with a 15.5 to 14.5 victory.  The Cup will be played for again on Sunday, March 19, 2023.


2023 Yu-Cal Cup Rules

Played between Members of The Calimesa Men’s Golf Club and the Yucaipa Valley Men’s Golf Club.

  • Blue tees
  • All USGA rules, local course rules detailed on the scorecard, and the below adopted men’s club rules apply.  The appointed home team captain will announce all men’s club adopted rules prior to the start of play.
    • The maximum gross score taken on any hole will be four over par in accordance with USGA Rule 21.2.  7 on a par 3, 8 on a par 4, and 9 on a par 5.
    • USGA Model Local Rule E-5 has been adopted as an alternative option to the Stroke-and-Distance procedures under USGA Rule 18.2.
    • Abnormal Course Conditions exist in all bunkers.  Relief can be taken under USGA Rule 16.1c.  The ball does not need to be dropped.  It can be placed in the bunker, no nearer the hole.  If rakes are present in bunkers, proceed as normal under USGA Rule 12.2.
  • If the application of any rule comes into question and cannot be resolved by Members within the pairing, the player will play two balls, record both scores, and the appointed team captains will review the situation and make a ruling.  All disputes will be decided by the team captains.
  • The visiting club will provide a listing of players to the home club with proposed teams.  The home club will pair teams with the least difference in handicaps.
  • The home team captain will do all the scoring with the assistance of the visiting team captain.
  • An optional individual skins will be played for $20 ($10 Gross, $10 Net).


Each club will field 10 2-man teams (20 players)

  • One team from each club will play a 2-man best net ball match
  • The golfer with the lowest handicap in each pairing will give the stroke difference to the golfers with higher handicaps
  • Handicaps will be calculated on each players L.I. (lowest index from the last 3 months) as of 3/18/23
  • Strokes will be taken on the most difficult rated holes
  • Each match will play for one point on the front nine, one point on the back nine, and one point for the total (18 holes) for a total of three points
  • Half points for ties
  • If a team shows up with less than 20 players, matches may be played short a player (2 against 1)
  • The club with the most points wins the Yu-Cal Cup.  If the event ends in a tie, the cup will be retained by the previous winner of the Cup.


​All costs associated with the Yu-Cal Cup trophy will be split 50/50 between both clubs.
