NEWS - July/August 2020

  • I hope everyone is safe and well during these uncertain times.  The Board has been receiving a lot of questions about when tournament play will resume.  An email was sent to the Membership requesting feedback on whether to continue to suspend tournaments due to all the golf course restrictions or to resume tournament play the best we can.  There was a great response with good suggestions and mixed feelings on what's best.  The Board held a special meeting on June 19, 2020 and decided to resume tournament play on July, 12, 2020.  Keep in mind, our Club is at the mercy of the golf courses we play.  The guidelines, rules, and restrictions for each course are different.  Some courses allow shotgun starts while others don't.  Some courses won't host a tournament and will only allow a group to book as many as three tee times.  Some courses allow two players in a cart while others will only allow one.  Some courses require prepayment of green fees while others don't.  All of these factors make it difficult to schedule and host a tournament.  However,  the Board is in constant communication with the courses we play as well as some other courses we normally don't play in order to obtain a clear picture of what is allowed and what isn't.  We've waited long enough and are going to push forward.  Tournaments won't be as they once were for awhile but we have to start somewhere.  Tournaments may have a limit on the number of Members allowed to play, green fees may not be discounted as much, there may be progressive starts instead of shotgun starts, and green fees/tournament fees may be collected by the Tournament Committee prior to the event.  Email communication will be sent out in advance of each tournament from the Tournament Committee.  Please  carefully read the communication to be clear on what is required to participate in each tournament.

  • The 2020 tournament schedule is being revised on a near weekly basis.  As the Tournament Committee confirms tournaments, the schedule is revised and posted on our website.  Click here to download the most recently revised tournament schedule.

      • Attempt to make the best score possible at each hole,
      • Submit acceptable scores for handicap purposes as soon as possible after the round is completed and before midnight local time,
      • Submit acceptable scores to provide reasonable evidence of their demonstrated ability,
      • Play by the Rules of Golf, and

  • Just an FYI.  The Club Championship is scheduled for August 1 & 2.  There is a good chance this tournament will be rescheduled for a weekend later in the year.

  • The annual Spoto/Ebert Invitational was held in Laughlin, NV on June 6 & 7.  There was a small group this year but it's no surprise since it wasn't clear if the trip was going to happen with such short notice about the casinos reopening on June 4.  It all came together at the last minute and worked out great.  Click here to see the tournament results.

  • The USGA has published COVID-19 Rules and Handicapping FAQs on their website.  Click here to view the FAQs.  For those Members that are playing golf at courses that have removed bunker rakes, flagsticks or made other changes to avoid the spread of COVID-19, please follow the USGA temporary guidelines for adjusting and posting scores.  Questions about how to adjust and post a score can be directed to Handicap Chairman, Doug Solano (951-966-2599 Rubicon34@yahoo.com).  The Tournament Committee will make an announcement prior to the start of the each tournament regarding the acceptance and use of any of the USGA's temporary guidelines during tournament play.
